SUMMARY:Karla Bonoff
DESCRIPTION:Born and raised in Southern California\, Karla Bonoff was a songwriter by the age of fifteen. She and her sister Lisa were writing songs and playing as a duo titled “The Daughters of Chester P” named after their father\, Dr. Chester Paul Bonoff. She had already fallen in love with the guitar and studied with Frank Hamilton of the famous folk group\, The Weavers. By 16\, Karla and her sister Lisa auditioned for Elektra Records. An 11-song demo [recorded by Doors’ engineer Bruce Botnick] was recorded but no deal came of this first effort. \n  \nKarla’s sister became a teacher of history and religion\, but Karla’s passion was always music. She became friends with other singer-songwriters and musicians [in the ’60s] who were creating their own unique sound. She talks about lining up at the legendary Troubadour at noon on Mondays to get a slot in the famous Monday night Troubadour “hoot\,” which was a breaking ground for many artists who went on to great success. She says\, “It was an amazing time. Jackson Browne\, James Taylor and Elton John were around the Troubadour in those days.” There were some other writer-singers who became friends of Karla’s\, and eventually\, they decided to put a band together. They were Kenny Edwards\, (who had started the Stone Poneys with Linda Ronstadt and Bobby Kimmel)\, Wendy Waldman\, and Andrew Gold. Something powerful in their combined sound drew them together. Thus the band Bryndle was born – one of the early songwriter groups\, even before the Eagles. The band made an album for A&M\, but it was never released. They were\, unfortunately\, a bit ahead of their time. \n  \nSpeaking of the A&M project\, Karla says\, “They didn’t release it. I think they didn’t really know quite what to make of it. This was right before Crosby\, Stills and Nash\, and before Fleetwood Mac. We were these two girls and two guys… the closest thing they could compare us to was the Mamas and the Papas. They actually had Lou Adler [producer for the Mamas and Papas] produce a single to try to make us like that. In the next few years\, had we stayed together\, I think we could have done well.” A single\, with Karla singing lead\, was released from those sessions\, but failed to forward the band’s career. “It was a hit in Santa Maria [California]\,” Karla remembers. Bryndle broke up\, but it launched four very illustrious careers. Kenny and Andrew joined Linda Ronstadt’s band\, and through that connection\, Ronstadt was to hear a demo of hers. Karla recalled playing a tape of “Lose Again” for her. “Hey\, you know that’s real good\,” Bonoff remembers Ronstadt saying\, “What else have you got?” On Linda’s “Hasten Down the Wind” album [released in 1976]\, there were three Bonoff songs: “Someone to Lay Down Beside Me\,” “If He’s Ever Near” and “Lose Again.” \n  \nAs Ronstadt was scoring hits with Karla Bonoff songs\, Karla herself was signed as a solo artist to Columbia Records in 1977. There\, she not only recorded the three songs Linda had done\, but also the hit single “I Can’t Hold On” and the tune “Home\,” which later wound up on one of Bonnie Raitt’s albums. The producer of this great first album [and the next two] was Karla’s old friend and partner\, Kenny Edwards. Bonoff then embarked on a solo tour to promote her album\, and by the time she reached Seattle\, “I Can’t Hold On” was Number 1 in the Pacific Northwest. “I was headlining and I barely had enough songs to play\,” Karla recalls\, still amazed at the memory. “So I just kept playing them longer!” She went from there to coveted spots on major tours\, opening for James Taylor and Jackson Browne and earning a rave review in Time magazine. Two subsequent albums\, “Restless Nights” [released in 1979] and “Wild Heart of the Young” [released in 1982]\, established Karla as one of LA’s major artists and songwriters. Musicians such as Russ Kunkel\, Joe Walsh\, Waddy Wachtel\, Danny Kortchmar\, Don Henley\, Timothy Schmit\, Peter Frampton\, Bill Payne\, J.D. Souther\, and her old partners from Bryndle\, Wendy Waldman\, Andrew Gold and Kenny Edwards all participated in the making of these wonderful records. Bonoff had a big hit with “Personally\,” from her album “Wild Heart of the Young” – a song Karla did not write. “I’m sure there’re people out there who only know me from this song\, but I really enjoyed singing and recording it.” \n  \nHer fourth album\, New World [first released in 1988]\, was originally released on Gold Castle\, and is now available on the Valley Entertainment label. Karla began to tour in Japan\, where audiences fell in love with her\, and where she became a very successful artist – and continues to be to this day. There’s been work in film – she and J.D. Souther wrote songs for the motion picture “About Last Night.” She is also the voice on the Tom Snow/ Dean Pitchford song from “Footloose” called “Somebody’s Eyes.” In 1994\, Karla had a top-ten AC hit single with a song from the film “8 Seconds\,” called “Standing Right Next to Me.” This track was produced by the legendary Keith Thomas (a longtime fan of Karla’s) and written with her old partner\, Wendy Waldman. Throughout the years\, Karla has continued to do what she does best. She’s toured with Bonnie Raitt\, John Prine\, J.D. Souther and others\, building up a passionate audience\, resulting in sold-out houses everywhere. In 1990\, strange things began to happen in Karla’s life. Her career came full circle. She wrote three songs which wound up on her old friend Linda Ronstadt’s album “Cry Like a Rainstorm\, Howl Like the Wind.” “All My Life\,” a duet with Ronstadt and Aaron Neville\, won the Grammy for Best Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. People magazine ranked “All My Life” as one of the top 5 most popular wedding songs. \n  \nIn 1993\, Karla’s song “Tell Me Why\,” sung by the legendary Wynonna Judd [with Karla on acoustic guitar\, and Bryndle members singing backup vocals]\, was the title song to Wynonna’s second album\, and a tremendous hit. The Eight Seconds soundtrack album [released in 1994]\, featured the aforementioned “Standing Right Next to Me” and a duet with Vince Gill on “When Will I Be Loved\,” [a ’70s hit for Linda Ronstadt] bringing Karla’s sound to an even bigger Country music audience. \n  \nKarla and her three old partners\, Kenny Edwards\, Andrew Gold and Wendy Waldman\, then decided it was time to put Bryndle back together again. The thought had always been there\, but now with each person having experienced many successes alone\, there was much more to bring to the Bryndle experience. “When we decided to put this band back together\,” Bonoff explains\, “we realized that one of the things that was wrong with it the first time was that we all wrote separately. We thought it would be great to write together this time. It’s been new and really fun to do that\, the four of us.” Twelve out of the 14 songs on Bryndle’s CD were written as a group. In the fall of ’95\, after four years of hard work\, the first Bryndle CD came out\, released in the United States and Japan. The band toured Japan in the summer\, then began to tour the United States. Karla had some incredible showstoppers on the record and onstage. “On the Wind\,” “Under the Rainbow” and “Daddy’s Little Girl” brought the house down every single night no matter where Bryndle played. Bonoff fans flocked to the shows and were thrilled to see her with her old friends\, having a great time. In 1996\, Andrew Gold left the band but Bryndle continued on\, performing into the summer of 1997. \n  \nA duet with the Dirt Band\, “You Believed in Me\,” written with Wendy Waldman\, was released in January of that year on a prestigious MCA album honoring the 1996 Olympics. \n  \nIn 1999\, Sony/CBS Legacy released “All My Life – The Best of Karla Bonoff\,” a 16-song fully remastered collection spanning Karla’s entire career. An extensive article by Billboard Editor-In-Chief Timothy White and an interview with Karla were included with the CD. \n  \nProgress on Bryndle’s follow-up CD [with the working title of “Bryndle 2”] stopped and started after 1997 and for a few years\, it appeared there might not be another release by the band. At one point\, parts of the unfinished “Bryndle 2” digital recordings were lost in a hard drive crash – a nearly fatal omen to the project. Meanwhile\, Karla [accompanied by Kenny Edwards] began touring more as a solo act as Bryndle stopped performing live. \n

SUMMARY:High South
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall is proud to bring to its stage High South Friday February 21\, 2020 \nWith impressive three-part harmonies\, a dedication to songwriting\, and unwavering optimism\, the Nashville-based band High South has developed a dedicated following across Europe\, where they’ve been touring regularly there since 2015. Now they’re breaking into the American market with A Change in the Wind\, a captivating project that draws comparisons to classic rock bands like the Eagles\, Doobie Brothers\, and Crosby\, Stills and Nash. \nThe group – composed of Jamey Garner\, Kevin Campos\, and Phoenix Mendoza – sums up it this way: “As vocalists we are always drawn to harmony. It’s such a naturally pleasing sound that we’re absolutely hooked on — and it was never more prevalent than the 1970s. Every kid learns from their environment and we were all fortunate to have parents that exposed us to the music of this era. In a sense\, it’s in our soul.” \nWith a desire to carry on that iconic ‘70s vibe\, High South teamed with producer Josh Leo\, known for his work with Glenn Frey\, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band\, Jimmy Buffett\, and Kim Carnes\, as well as No. 1 hits for country artists Love & Theft and Emerson Drive. Other collaborators on A Change in the Wind include engineer Niko Bolas (Neil Young\, Don Henley\, Warren Zevon)\, guitarist Jack Pearson (Allman Brothers Band)\, keyboard player Tony Harrell (Flying Burrito Brothers)\, drummer Nir Z (Genesis)\, and singer Raul Malo (The Mavericks). \nAlthough the band released several singles internationally through Universal Germany\, A Change in the Wind is their first release with distribution in America. The project’s empowering lead single\, “Make It Better\,” doubles as a mission statement for the band. \n“We’re positive dudes\,” Garner says. “We want to put forth a positive message. And we honestly believe that in the course\, together we can make it better. That song is about people coming together. Even in the video\, we made sure to show a lot of images of people coming together — people of all colors\, all races\, all genders\, all religions.” \nHigh South’s origins stretch back to the early 2000s\, when Garner and Mendoza met shortly after each had moved to Nashville. Interested in songwriting and influenced by ‘70s music\, they were pursuing solo careers and trying to get discovered. Around the same time\, Campos was growing up in Los Angeles with an early desire to be a performer – one that led to singing background vocals on three world tours with Enrique Iglesias. It would take 12 years before Garner\, Campos and Mendoza ever got in a room together playing guitars together and bonding with the harmonies of some of their favorite artists\, such as Crosby\, Stills & Nash and America; almost immediately\, they realized they had created something special. \nGarner grew up in the small town of Chester\, Illinois\, near the Mississippi River. His family lived in a large Victorian house\, the kind you’d expect to be haunted\, he says. As a boy he happened to find a harmonica laying in his backyard. Curious\, he picked it up\, dusted it off\, and started to play. That moment sparked a lifelong interest in music\, although his college degree is in public relations. On the advice of a respected friend\, he moved to New York after graduation\, where he did some acting and worked on his songwriting. \nIn contrast\, Mendoza was raised in Arizona\, as the second of five kids. His father played Spanish guitar and Flamenco music\, which enchanted Phoenix from a young age – particularly because of the way it compelled friends and family to gather around and listen. At 15\, Phoenix started playing guitar\, too; a few years later\, he formed a band with two of his brothers. As that group started getting traction in the Southwest\, Phoenix decided that they should all move to Nashville and try to make it big. The brothers didn’t agree\, so at 21\, he headed to Nashville without them. \nBy playing at songwriter nights\, Mendoza landed an audition for a publishing company in Nashville. Initially they passed\, but decided to introduce him to other writers\, including Josh Leo. He eventually landed the publishing deal and started getting road gigs playing for country artists. Yet the work felt unsatisfying\, to some degree\, because they weren’t his own songs. \nIt was an emotion that Garner and Campos knew well. As a guest vocalist on tour with Trans-Siberian Orchestra\, Garner delivered powerful anthems to 20\,000 listeners a night but still felt empty inside. He started thinking about ways to get his songs to audiences while still performing live. Meanwhile\, Campos had just graduated from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles and promptly started touring with Iglesias. Through a friend of a friend\, Garner was introduced to Campos\, who needed a gig after the tour wrapped. \nCampos says\, “I got this phone call to try out for this band that was getting together that sounded like the Eagles. That’s right up my alley – I love that harmony. Harmony goes back to the reason I started doing this in the first place. That’s when I met Jamey.” \nAfter some personnel changes following High South’s European releases\, Garner and Campos decided to forge ahead with a new lineup. Garner tracked down Mendoza\, flew him to Dallas (where Garner was living at the time)\, and decided to see if they were all compatible. The trio immediately clicked. Then\, Mendoza took it upon himself to convince his old friend Josh Leo to produce them on a shoestring budget. After a productive songwriting retreat in Joshua Tree\, California\, all four men were fully on board. \nWith Garner\, Campos\, and Mendoza trading out lead vocals\, High South effortlessly embodies the enduring ‘70s mantra of peace\, love and harmony. That upbeat spirit transcends geography\, considering that they’ve performed multiple times in Germany\, Austria\, and Switzerland\, both on stage and on television. \n“Because of the legwork that those two guys put in earlier\, I have been able to see the world and sing these songs\,” Mendoza says. “We made these wonderful things\, we pulled them out of the air\, and to be able to stand and sing your own words\, regardless of the size of the crowd – that’s pretty awesome.” \n“Their harmonies are so perfect and I smile as it takes me back to the first time I heard CROSBY\, STILLS\, NASH\, AND YOUNG…” – Kim Carnes \n\n

SUMMARY:The Joshua Tree – U2 Tribute
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall is proud to bring to its stage Joshua Tree Friday February 7\, 2020 \nAs the nation’s premiere tribute to U2\, The Joshua Tree pride themselves with their ability to generate a unique musical experience that does not lend itself to impersonations. Without compromising artistic integrity\, the band has gone to great lengths to reproduce the distinct sound of one of the world’s most popular rock bands. Unique to The Joshua Tree is their dedication to the entire U2 songbook\, including early fan favorites from the 1980-1987 period (Boy\, October\, War\, The Unforgettable Fire\, and The Joshua Tree) \nPlaying each song with the same intensity and emotion\, the band covers all phases of U2’s career from their first album\, Boy\, to the most recent\, Songs of Innocence. \nI am a huge U2 fan and I’ve seen every show in this area in the past 10 years. I was completely floored by your performance and still talk about it routinely.  I was impressed by the sound\, accuracy\, and effort you all put in.” \n— Brian —\n“I have never seen an audience at the Feast get drawn into a performance like last night during your show. Your show was so electric that people all over the grounds just stopped what they were doing and started getting absorbed by the music and performance.  The intensity in the place just kept on building as the set went on and I could feel it.\nA Feast committee member came up to me and said\, “look at this! it’s unbelievable; ya just never know.” It is hard to express how well you guys hit it last night but believe me it was impressive.\nYou guys commanded that stage like few others ever have.\nIt was my first time hearing or seeing your band and I can say that I am very glad I was there to see it last night and now consider myself a fan.”  – — David — \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Smithereens with Marshall Crenshaw
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall 78 Border St.\,Scituate\,Ma. is proud to bring to its stage The Smithereens with guest vocalist Marshall Crenshaw Friday\, December 20\, 2019. \nThe surviving members of The Smithereens recently announced that the band would continue following the Dec.2017 death of front man Pat DiNizio. Instead of installing a permanent front man they decided to use various guest vocalists.  For our show\, they will be accompanied by Marshall Crenshaw. \nThe Smithereens formed in 1980 and have toured and recorded continuously since then. They may not be the biggest rock band to ever come out of New Jersey but they are arguably one the best representations of a Jersey band\, combining a Jersey rock and roll vibe with a Beatlesque sound. \nMarshall Crenshaw is a singer songwriter musician best known for his song Someday\,Someway. His music has roots in classic soul music and Buddy Holly-the latter to whom Crenshaw was often compared to in the early days of his career whom he portrayed in the 1987 movie “La Bamba”. \n“ Although he was seen as a latter day Buddy Holly at the outset\, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself” \nTROUSER  PRESS \nThe River Club Music Hall is located at 78 Border St.\,Scituate\,Ma.For ticket info call 339-236-6786 or visit our website at www.theriverclubmusichall.com \n  \n

SUMMARY:The English Beat
DESCRIPTION:**THIS IS A STANDING ONLY SHOW!  THERE WILL BE VERY LIMITED SEATING IN THE RESERVED SECTION W/ HIGH TOP TABLES IN THE BACK** \nOne tempestuous weekend in March 1979 was not only the date of the Three Mile Island nuclear incident\, but also\, in Birmingham\, England\, the very first show by a nascent band known as The Beat. Introduced as “the hottest thing since the Pennsylvania meltdown”\, the band had a sense that the next few years could well be explosive! The Beat hailed from working class\, industrial Birmingham\, England. When The Beat rushed on to the music scene in 1979\, it was a time of social\, political and musical upheaval. Into this storm came The Beat\, trying to calm the waters with their simple message of love and unity set to a great dance beat. \nThat ember was nursed back into a roaring flame in February 2003\, when a dream came true for many Beat fans as the band reunited for a UK tour\, culminating in a sold out command performance at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall! It was a wonderful night for the band and their fans. \nConsummate showman that he is\, Dave Wakeling has continued to keep The Beat alive and strong. How could he not? Dave continues to tour the world as The English Beat with an amazing all-star ska backing band playing all the hits of The Beat\, General Public\, and his new songs. \nYou just can’t stop The Beat! \n“… [Dave] Wakeling and his crew played 90 minutes worth of hits\, deep cuts\, some General Public chestnuts and a few new songs… every song was met with recognition and applause.” – River Front Times \n“[The English Beat are] more popular now than ever.” – San Francisco Chronicle \n[Dave Wakeling] has assembled an incredible band and is playing his hits with the same raucous enthusiasm that made The English Beat one of the biggest acts of the New Wave Era… Every time they play\, The Brew [San Luis Obispo\, CA] is packed to the gills with an audience bouncing in unison.” – SLO New Times \n“People were spilling out the doors by the time [English Beat] went on stage and the palpable joy was in the air when they started… With lyrics about unity\, peace\, love and partying\, and a beat that’s guaranteed to get you out of your seat\, their music will always be dancetastic.” – The New York Examiner \nThe River Club Music Hall is located at 78 Border St.\,Scituate\,Ma.For ticket info call 339-236-6786 or visit our website at www.theriverclubmusichall.com \nIn 2011\, Alex Stern recognized a problem of his own creation: He was in a reggae band that was firmly committed to writing within its genre\, but\, his songs were grounded in a fascination with late 70’s Power-Pop and New Wave. He was simultaneously in a New Wave band that objected to his insistence on a singularly Jamaican syncopation. He formed The Pomps with an ear towards an amalgam of the 2 styles\, and a hope that it would be a solution. \nFew bands get their lineup correct from the jump\, but\, the initial team of Jameson Hollis (bass)\, Rick Smith (Drums)\, and Casey Gruttadauria (Organ) endures to this day. The group got a running start by playing warehouse parties\, opening for modern ska heroes\, and even scoring a little bit of love in the hometown (Boston) press. \nIn the midst of this\, the group’s momentums was slightly impeded by demand for the members’ individual skills: Hollis brought his bass around the world with Have Nots\, Stern became the permanent guitarist for Big D and the Kids Table\, and Casey and Rick were called for hundreds of local sessions and shows. Still\, the band mustered 2 high quality releases\, and continued to build even without sustained availability. \n2015 finds our Pomps re-assembled and ready to release their best record yet for the new (and ultra-selective) Rarebreed Recording Company . Indie Rock is Dying treats its listener to 6 A-sides of self-styled “Island Power-Pop”. “Downbeat Diner” is an adderall-fueled pul of Hawaii-noir. “All My Guns” is a portrait of the Sandy Hook- Era “responsible gun-owner” that every parent fears\, while the title track describes the special hell that is being a ska fanatic while living in a house full of underemployed tastemakers. Surprise closer “How to Lure People” sets up a beach chair in the previously unoccupied zone between Crowded House and Sly and Robbie. \nProblem. Solved. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Jonathan Edwards
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall 78 Border St.\, Scituate\, MA. is proud to bring to its stage Jonathan Edwards April 5\, 2019 \nWarm as summer sunshine\, real as the truth\, intimate as a long overdue visit between old friends … such is a Jonathan Edwards concert. Four decades into a stellar career of uncompromising musical integrity\, the man simply delivers\, night after night – songs of passion\, songs of insight\, songs of humor\, all rendered in that pure and powerful tenor which\, like fine wine\, has only grown sweeter with age. \nThis is one veteran performer who is neither grizzled nor nostalgic. These days Jonathan is likely to be found on the road. I’ve been…doing what I do best\, which is playing live in front of people. I’ve been concentrating on that and loving it\,” he says. \nAn artist who measures his success by his ability to attract and take good care of an audience for four decades\, Jonathan maintains that it is the feedback he receives after his shows that keeps him going. “It is really gratifying to hear [someone say]\, ‘Your stuff has meant a lot to me over the years.’” \nThe “stuff” he’s referring to is a highly respected repertoire that includes such classics as “Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboy\,” “Sometimes\,” “One Day Closer\,” “Don’t Cry Blue\,” “Emma\,” “Everybody Knows Her\,” “Athens County\,” and everyone’s favorite ode to putting a good buzz on\, “Shanty.” And then\, of course\, there’s the anthemic “Sunshine (Go Away Today)\,” that fierce proclamation of protest and independence that resonated with thousands and thousands of frustrated and angry young men and women when it was first released in 1971. Almost 40 years later\, at show after show\, the song continues to be embraced by faithful followers and new fans alike. \nSince 1971\, Jonathan has released 15 albums\, including Blue Ridge\, his standard-setting collaboration with bluegrass favorites the Seldom Scene\, and Little Hands\, his collection of children’s songs\, which was honored with a National Library Association award. \nAs for album #16\, Jonathan says\, “Young people that are getting back to the land and trying to get off the power grid encourage me. My next studio album will reflect some of those themes.” \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Mallett Brothers Band
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall is proud to bring to its stage Thursday\, March 28th\, The Mallett Brothers Band \nThe Mallett Brothers Band is an independent rock and roll / Americana / country band from Maine. Their busy tour schedule since forming in 2009 has helped them to build a dedicated fanbase across the U.S. and beyond while still calling the state of Maine their home. With a style that ranges from alt-country to Americana\, country\, jam and roots rock\, theirs is a musical melting pot that’s influenced equally by the singer/songwriter tradition as by harder rock\, classic country and psychedelic sounds. \nTexas Hill Country Explore Magazine calls them “New England’s wildly eclectic crew of genre rebels.” Bill Copeland Music News says “Combining their authentic roots rock sound with a reflective lyrical style that perceives stories on the level of epic myth\, it’s like William Faulkner has been resurrected with an electric guitar in hand..” \nThe Mallett Brothers Band has performed at some of the country’s top venues and festivals\, including Portland\, Maine’s State Theatre; Austin\, Texas’s famed Continental Club; Alexandria\, Virginia’s Birchmere; New Hampshire’s Meadowbrook Pavilion; Nashville’s Bluebird; Denver’s Cervantes’; and Little Rock’s The Rev Room\, to name a few. A list of artists for whom the band has provided direct support would include The Turnpike Troubadours\, The Outlaws\, Blackberry Smoke\, Robert Earl Keen\, .38 Special\, Molly Hatchet\, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real\, and many more. Festival appearances include FloydFest (Virginia)\, Hop Jam (Vermont)\, Nateva (Maine)\, The New England Country Music Festival (New Hampshire)\, Eastbound Throwdown (New York)\, and many more. \nTHE MALLETT BROTHERS BAND INCLUDES:\nVocals\, Acoustic & Electric Guitar / Luke Mallett\nVocals\, Acoustic & Electric Guitar / Will Mallett\nVocals\, Electric Guitar & Dobro / Wally\nVocals\, Drums / Chuck Gagne\nBass / Nick Leen\nVocals\, Fiddle\, Mandolin\, Guitar / Andrew Martelle \n“Americana music is many things\, but it’s not typically known as an ethnic stew. But on Vive L’Acadie\, The Mallett Brothers Band\, sporting influences from Northern New England\, French-speaking Canada\, the Cajun South\, Texas and even Ireland\, has cooked up a sort of poutine gumbo that’s spicy enough to melt your turntable.” – Americana Highways \n“The sound of The Mallett Brothers Band comes from deep within the pines of Maine. The embodiment of a flannel clad morning chill and a bit of sap and dirt caked on the knees of your favorite well worn denim.” – Red Line Roots. \n  \n

SUMMARY:High South
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall is proud to bring to its stage High South Friday Mar.8th at 8 pm. \n\n\nWith impressive three-part harmonies\, a dedication to songwriting\, and unwavering optimism\, the Nashville-based band High South has developed a dedicated following across Europe\, where they’ve been touring regularly there since 2015. “We made these wonderful things\, we pulled them out of the air\, and to be able to stand and sing your own words\, regardless of the size of the crowd – that’s pretty awesome.” \n\n\n“Their harmonies are so perfect and I smile as it takes me back to the first time I heard CROSBY\, STILLS\, NASH\, AND YOUNG…” – Kim Carnes \n

SUMMARY:Lenny Clark
DESCRIPTION:The River Club Music Hall is proud to bring to its stage Lenny Clarke Friday\, March 27\, at 8 pm. \nVeteran Boston stand-up comedian Lenny Clarke has an oddly calibrated act; his material and his perspective is very much in an old-school Don Rickles vein\, but his attitude is very much that of a quick-witted young comic. This contrast comes wrapped in a conversational\, deceptively genial delivery\, with just brief moments of clowning. \nClarke is also unpredictable in a very good way on stage. You don’t know where he’s going to go next\, and as he said at one point in the night’s set\, neither does he. “It’s never the same show twice … because I can’t remember what worked from night to the next!” He also challenged the audience to keep up at times\, and some of the quips fell out of his mouth so nonchalantly that it took even the sharpest observer a moment or two to catch them. “I can’t dumb it down any more than that\,” he remarked at one point after backing off a little. \nClarke was born in Cambridge\, Massachusetts. He was the most famous “saloon comic” in Boston during the 1980s\, the heyday of the Boston comedy scene.[1] The DVD release When Standup Stood Out (2006) details Clarke’s early career and affiliations with other famous Boston comics\, such as Steven Wright and Denis Leary\, his good friends. In 1980\, Clarke wrote and starred in a local television show Lenny Clarke’s Late Show featuring Wright and Leary\, in collaboration with Boston comedy writer Martin Olson. Clarke and Olson were roommates\, and their apartment\, known by comedians as “The Barracks”\, was a notorious “crash pad” for comics visiting Boston\, and the subject of a documentary film as Clarke and Leary explain inWhen Standup Stood Out.
